Abstract

In this lecture, I investigate the relation between the state of exception, normality and law in the legal and political philosophy of Carl Schmitt. I analyse the interconnections between sovereignty, decision, political unity, constitution and law in general and try show in which regard does Schmitt understand normality as a horizon of abnormality.

In this context, I pay special attention to the difference between commissarial and sovereign dictatorship.
