The author presents the first results of pilot study of 119 dyads of patients with dementia and their family caregivers using the Resource Utilisation in Dementia, fourth version questionnaire (RUD 4.0). The study shows that family carers in the Czech Republic use relatively rarely formal services for persons with dementia.
They usually ensure most of the care provided. The number of carers per one person with dementia is on average 1,6 which is lower number than in other countries.
Combination of these factors may threaten caregivers in the Czech Republic with isolation more than in other countries. Further data analysis will be necessary to provide more information about costs of care.
It is also recommended to revise the terminology of the Czech version of the RUD 4.0 questionnaire, especially in the section on formal services to better target actual services provided in the Czech Republic.
