Abstract

The Bulgarian minority in socialist Yugoslavia consisted of regional groups with different historical backgrounds, and further variations within these groups. For these reasons, Bulgarians from Banat and those living elsewhere were acknowledged as two different ethnic minorities in socialist Yugoslavia.

The latter faced repressive measures because of their alleged irredentism following WWII, along with Bulgarian occupation and the threat they presented to Macedonian nation-building.
