Abstract
The Albanian minority in Kosovo grew in importance under the socialist Yugoslavia as Albanians became a majority population in this autonomous region. Aspiring for the improvement of their minority status and clashing with the federal government and later with Slobodan Milošević's administration the Albanians in Kosovo were central to the turmoil that led to the socialist Yugoslavia's breakup.
