This textbook is designed for students of Portuguese philology and for broader linguistic community. It is the first comprehensive text on the evolution of the Portuguese language published in Czech.
The book aims to introduce the reader to the current state of knowledge of the evolution of Portuguese language. It deals mainly with issues of periodization and formation of the Portuguese language, the complex question of the oldest Portuguese text, and phonological and morphosyntactic evolution of this language from Vulgar Latin to the contemporary Portuguese (interpretation progresses chronologically in stages - Vulgar Latin, Old and Middle Portuguese, Classical Portuguese and Modern Portuguese).
The text also briefly discusses some general topics, such as romanization, characteristics of Vulgar Latin or various types of language changes.
