Plants, Drought and the Age of Omics: What Is the Information Value of Proteomic Analyses?

Publication

Abstract

The number of publications dealing with the changes of plant proteome caused by drought has recently significantly increased. However, a detailed analysis of these studies shows us often contradictory results.

This is mainly due to a large variability of the experimental designs used; moreover, the experiments have often been organized in such a way that the information value of the obtained results is necessarily rather limited. This paper analyzes the main features of such studies from various angles and tries to offer a critical view of some shortcomings and limitations currently associated with existing proteomic analyses made with drought-stressed plants.
