Abstract
Study focuses on study foundations as the way of financing the education. Foundations, as a part of contemporary system of the social security proved to be guarantee of a possibility to study even for the students without financial and social proper.
In the time when a satisfactory network of the high schools and universities did not exist, studying was not reachable for everyone and the state did not conduct active educational policy and had no tools to collect financial resources for supporting the development in the education the natural source of such resources in the Czech lands were foundations. This contribution explains the position of foundations in the social order of the contemporary society, the main features of study foundations and their place between other type of foundations
