This study examined the effect of a swiss ball exercise program on postural stability in elderly females. The participants (n = 10; age 69.8 +- 4.4 years, body weight 72.1 +- 8.3 kg; body height 161.1 +- 6.6 cm; body mass index 27.8 +- 3.3 kg. m-2) attended 60-minute core instability strength exercise session twice a week for the 5-month training period.
The postural stability was assessed by force plate FootScan. The present study did not demonstrate any improvements in balance after exercise intervention.
Total travel way (TTW) of centre of pressure increased in all balance task conditions. The lowest degradation of balance was observed in narrow stance with eyes closed (by 18.4 %).
