Evaluation of the quality of legal translation depends on many objective and subjective factors relevant in the process of legal translation in general. Objective factors include the proximity or remoteness of the source and target legal systems, typological remoteness or proximity of the source and target languages, the purpose of translation etc.
The basic subjective factor consists of the translator's legal knowledge, or his or her legal literacy. the evaluation of the quality of legal translation depends not only on assessing wheter the target legal text is linguistically correct but also on the preservation of legal sense of the source text in the target text.
