An enhanced microscopic analysis of pore spaces, as an important part of the entire rock fabric, is proposed. It is based on a special preparatory technique of thin sections.
The technique consists of a two-step fixation of porous specimens: the staining of the pore space with a mixture of a low viscosity epoxy resin and a fluorescent dye. The technique is primarily designed to increase the contrast between the pores and rock-forming minerals, and to enhance their microscopic observability.
This method can also be used for description of the crack/pore geometry, as well as for the interpretation of other porosimetric parameters.
