The Theological Conceptions and Visions of Rabbi Abraham J. Heschel and Rabbi Neil Gillman as a Living Source of Inspiration for Today

Publication |
2014

Abstract

This contribution to the conference should be focusing on the characterization of the fundamental theological conceptions which were elaborated and presented in the books of two influential Jewish thinkers, closely connected with Jewish Theological Seminary of America, Rabbis Abraham J. Heschel and Neil Gillman.

Thorough attention should be concentrated on the theme of Rabbi Heschel's prophetic theology of Divine pathos, which is for example related to the problematic of Divine - human relationship, Divine revelation or the possibilities of cognition in relation to the sacred dimension. There should also be reflected the general attitude of Rabbi Heschel to theology or to theological research.

The concise presentation of some inspiring deliberations of Rabbi Gillman should create a certain platform for potential extension of the modern Jewish theological discourse's perspective by means of the ideas of somebody, who could be reputed to be one of the leading figures of the American Conservative Judaism.
