University in the age of instrumental reason

Abstract

Idea of the University and education has been transformed several times during last few decades. The first transformation was described by Adorno.

Universities were exposed to the principle of exchange, which mainly acted on the level of consciousness (reified consciousness) and education (fragmentation, ephemeral information). Half-education which replaced the idea of education appeared.

The second transformation is traced by Liessmann. This transformation relates to neoliberalism.

Universities are evaluated according to quantitative criteria and the very education of graduates is mostly not the point. Miseducation ceases being critically reflected.
