Abstract
Czech translation of a textbook introducing basic concepts of general phonetics. Apart from the traditional articulatory description of speech sounds, it also includes chapters on speech acoustic, instrumental techniques of phonetic research, phonetic transcription, speech perception, language universals, phonology and prosody.
The translation is provided with a critical afterword comparing the British and Czech phonetic traditions, and explaining the translation method.
