Abstract

The aim of this paper is to map and discover opinions regarding spatial conditions for physical education lessons of the physical education teachers in primary schools. The problem is global ignorance of their condition and absence of any norms, which lay down even minimal spatial standards in schools as existed in the past.

Data contain 2822 electronic questionnares from Czech primary schools and 50 semistructured physical education teachers interviews from Prague and the Central Bohemia Region. Outdoor playgrounds and indoor gyms are together used for PE lessons in 86.8 % of schools regardless of the owner.

In 5.1 % of schools the indoor gym is used, but the outdoor playground is not. On the other hand 7.1 % of schools use the playground, but do not use the gym.

The outdoor playground and the gym are not used by 1 % of schools. Physical education teacher interviews show larger satisfaction of teachers in primary schools which have better spatial conditions for PE lessons.

It means bigger enthusiasm of pupils for PE lessons where there is non-conventional PE conditions.
