Solving problems in school mathematics creatively

Abstract

In the paper, results of the experiment aiming to teach 12-18-year old pupils to use heuristic strategies when solving problems are presented. Besides the description of these strategies and examples of effective problem solving, results of a 2-year experimental teaching are described; this teaching resulted in interesting changes in pupils' and teachers' skills and attitudes to solving problems and mathematics teaching and learning.
