Neer who constructed first implant available for routine patient care launched the modern era of shoulder arthroplasty. Between early 1970s and 1990s, a number of shoulder arthroplasty designs were introduced into the clinical practice, and based on their long-term outcomes some of them are used until now.

The history of Czech shoulder arthroplasty is also mentioned.
