Map Collection of the Faculty of Science, Charles University has in its collections more than 80 terrestrial, celestial and thematic globes, tellurions and armillary sphere. Globes are among the cartographic documents and in this way are also described.
As part of the TEMAP project was first launched cataloging of globes in the Map Collection. It has been described more than 80 globes, 14 of them are old globes, ie. published before 1850.
For its presentation was created web portal http://mapovasbirka.cz/ where users can browse globes in 2D or selected exhibits in 3D model. Digitizing into three dimensional models performed two teams of experts.
The first team from Ghent University in Belgium, led by Professor Philippe de Maeyer, and the second team from the Czech Technical University, led by Professor Karel Pavelka, using the method of intersection photogrammetry. Users can view valuable collection objects in the details, but the originals can stay safely in depositories and prolong their life.
