Masaryk's Interpretation of Mesianism: Polish Question as an Alternative Sense of National Being

Abstract

The aim of this study is to analyse the relationship of T. G.

Masaryk to the Polish environment with a special emphasis on his interpretation of the meaning of national identity. A fundamental challenge consists in the clarification of Masaryk's attitude towards the Polish messianism, whose principles Masaryk analysed implicitly in some of his monographs, articles as well as in his correspondence.

Thus one is able to claim that interpretation of Masaryk's evaluation of Polish poets, especially Mickiewicz and Krasiński, could reveal new possible connections between Masaryk's understanding of Czech and Polish question.
