Personality and Mental Endurance of Athletes in Sport Activities

Abstract

BACKGROUND A dispositional ability of a human to deal with a load by their individual characteristic manner is understood as a psychological resistance. In everyday life are the individual psychological burdensome factors difficult to define and the load increase in the continuum of psychological well-being - mental failure is a stochastic process.

Success in a sport activity can be an indicator of the suitability of a predisposition for managing certain types of loads that affect the extent of individual psychological resistance. OBJECTIVES To identify specific manifestations of psychological resistance in selected sport activities.

METHODOLOGY - Eysenck Personality Questionnaire-A EOD (Eysenck, 1964) - Cattell sixteen-factor questionnaire-16 PF (Cattell, 1964) RESULTS Identified predispositional condition specific for psychological resistance of the examined sport activities: - Shooting - reserve, withdrawal, endurance, forethought, calmness, emotional stability. - Skydiving - mobility, sociability, liveliness, openness, stability, accessibility. - Power triathlon - activity, impulsiveness, explosiveness, openness, speed. - Motorsport-endurance, openness, self-discipline, liveliness, adventurous nature. - Acrobatic flying - sociability, empathy, openness, artistic inclinations. As a general condition of psychological resistance were found a high emotional stability and extraversion.

According to the PF-16 it is the factor C and F. This finding is valid for all monitored activity.

CONCLUSION Identified predispositional conditions of psychological resistance show that an individual equipped with these achieves top results in their discipline at the highest international competitions. On the other hand, dispositional imbalance of personal indicators, regarding to the demands of the activity, explains the reason for the decreased psychological resistance and endurance.
