Some Considerations on the Historiography of Contemporary Capital Cities: Toward a Transnational Approach?

Publication at Faculty of Arts |
2015

Abstract

The chapter provides several theoretical considerations regarding the historical research of capital cities. After discussing the troubles with a search for appropriate and all-encompassing definition of the capital city, which always faces huge variety as regards size, centrality, and other criteria, the chapters continues with critical survey of existing approaches toward capital cities in urban history and concludes with suggesting the transnational approach as the new avenue to be taken by scholars.
