Abstract

The article focuses on Stepan Smal-Stotskyi's studies of Taras Shevchenko's poetry and tries to reveal their common denominator: the distinct conflict of "one's own" and the "other". This conflict can be traced in Stotskyi's texts in two different forms.

First, it becomes the object of interpretation. Second, the conflict becomes a part of the interpretation method.
