The article deals with Petar Vuković's book "Jezična kultura", with the subtitle "Program i naslijeđe Praške škole", which brings a Croatian translation of twenty most important works of Czech and Slovak members and disciples of the Prague school of linguistics dedicated to the questions of language culture. It describes the linguistic and social situation in the former Yugoslavia and explains the reasons why the general principles of the theory could not be applied to the situation and conditions of the Serbo-Croatian language of the time and why they were not relevant until now.
