The contribution introduces into the chapter "Knowledge of the Foreign" of the volume "Transculturality. Classical texts".
It therefore traces the history of ethnology and locates the texts of James Cliffiord, Johannes Fabian and Naoki Sakai, which are gathered in the chapter, in this horizon.
