Abstract
This book focuses mainly on the theoretic foundations of psychosomatic conceptions in medicine and biology. It includes chapters on the history of psychosomatic thought in western cultural contexts, on the origins of the conceptual duality between "body" and "soul" in the greek tradition.
Other chapters deal with issueof the dichotomy of the normal and the pathological, especially in relation to human variability and social contexts.
