Abstract
Firstly, the artcile gives short information on the life and work of Archimedes. Then, his numeral system (system of the orders and periods of numbers), his estimations of the diameter of the sphere of the Sun and the diameter of the sphere of the universe and his estimation of the number of grains of sand which could be contained in the sphere of the Sun and in the sphere of the universe are analysed in the detail.
