The professional media speakers, especially TV speakers, provide a highly influential speech model for others. This contribution presents the results of the perceptual test in which listeners evaluated the speech of the Czech dubbing of foreign television documentary films.
It explores the aspects which can influence this evaluation (e.g. sex of the speaker, sex of the listener and their regional origin) and it attempts to identify which factors are important for the listener. The overall success rate of the speakers ranges from 45.0 % to 81.0 % and the differences among certain speakers are statistically significant.
The male spokespersons are rated significantly better than the female. The listeners noticed, among other things, the accuracy of pronunciation, speech rate, melody and pausing and also the colour of voice.
