Abstract
The preface introduces main problems of contemporary literary translation from German into Central and Eastern European languages (Polish, Czech, Slovenian, Croatian, Ukrainian), and from these languages into German. As well, it identifies major issues which literary translation in these areas face in light of the current theoretical debate about translation and the role of translators of literature.
