Abstract

Science and music met in many points during their mutual coexistence across the centuries. The music, however, also runs through the history of human empirical knowledge of the world.

The makers of musical instruments acquainted themselves with new materials and production processes thanks to the geographical and technological discoveries. B.Jánský introduced the year 1492 in: European sets out to the New World.

J.Svěcený: the violin gets its present shape. E.Novotná introduced the Dutch as the kings of cartography of the 16th century.

J.Svěcený introduced Tyrol as the promised land of violins. B.Jánský presents the Czech-German Jesuit cartographer Samuel Fritz putting out to the South America in 1684.

Small violin of the Italian master Landolfi of Milan from 1684 is introduced by J.Svěcený. The year 1691 is connected with the map of Amazon River by Fritz: the oldest map of the great river.

Eugéne Sartory's fantastic bow, whose wood is from the outskirts of Pernambuco in Brazil. Samuel Fritz was the first to announce the discovery (incorrect) of the springs of the Amazon River.
