The paper deals with the course of thermodynamics and statistical physics in the third year of university, which we tought using active learning teaching methods in the past academic year, especially using the methods of Peer Instruction. According to those principles we changed not only direct teaching, but also assessment.
According to the results of students and their statements this change led to the fact that the students enjoyed learning more and understanding was deeper and long-lasting. The paper gives a brief description of the course, the experience of teaching and students' view on teaching this method.
