Abstract
The article analyzed the political development of Syria. The beginning of Bashar Asad rule was connected with the hope of "Damascus spring".
However, the new elite put a halt to the reform movement. This deveploment resulted in opposition from among the intellectuals, wider middle class resistence,supported by Sunni clerics, and Kurdish movement, which opened the way for the Syrian crisis and civil war.
