Given the stylistic heterogeneousness of essays and the multi-faceted nature of translated texts, the analysis of the Czech translation of this essay starts at the hints offered by its translator, Josef Forbelský, in the introduction to his translation, as well as in his autobiography. Taking the classic concepts of Czech translation theoretician Jiří Levý as a starting point, the elements analysed are in particular the change of the title in the Czech translation, the importance given by the translator to the function of adjectives in the Czech version, the directionality of the discourse, the way of dealing with place names, and marked language.
