In 1914 German Zionists led by Max Bodenheim formed the so called Commission for the Liberation of East European Jews, later renamed as Committee for the East. This group exercised political influence on the Central Powers to establish a multinational state in the conquered parts of the Russian Empire, where eastern Jews would find their national home and where Yiddish would be one of the official languages.
The paper described the evolution of this proposal and it's political influence on the both sides of the front.
