UBER has been offering its services in Hungary since November 2014. The "sharing economy" based passenger transport firm had prepared its market entry since last summer.
As soon as the first users joined the internet app a public debate began about the possible illegality of this kind of service. It only added fuel to the flames, given that the market of taxi services was significantly regulated in September 2013: Not only that uniform tariffs were introduced by the regulations of the municipal district councils, but all cabs had also to be painted yellow by their operators.
