The author summarizes knowledge from studies in the Cochrane database on non-pharmacological treatment for ankylosing spondylitis. The aim of the case study was to evaluate the efficacy of group exercise therapy for non-radiographic axial spondyloarthritis, which are not yet any evidence.
The influence of the six month supervised group exercise in combination with the use of NSAIDs occurred in the patient to improve mobility axial system, reduce of disease activity and improvement in functional impairment. Early initiation of exercise therapy in non-radiographic axial spondyloarthritis could lead to supporting severe deformities of axial system.
Both treatments (pharmacological and non-pharmacological) are complementary and both are important in the early stages of disease, and for long-term treatment of patients with ankylosing spondylitis.
