Romain Garbaye (2005): Getting into Local Power: The Politics of Ethnic Minorities in British and French Cities

Publication at Faculty of Science |
2007

Abstract

This book comes out from the author's dissertation thesis and compares the politics of ethnic minorities in three selected cities: Birmingham representing the United Kingdom and Lille in relation to France, with Lille's neighbour, Roubaix. This fact emphasizes the book's importance to the area of European migration studies, not only because of the author's interest in immigration policies, with a focus on the workings of the urban political system, but also because such a comparison of 40 years of minority politics between these two countries with long - and similar - immigration histories has not yet been done.

The book's publication is therefore welcomed.
