The presentation explored women's political representation in Czechoslovakia and the Czech Republic, framed in the context of the transformation from state socialism to democracy. It traced continuities and discontinuities in women's access to political power before and after 1989, taking into account the changing nature and significance of political institutions, and the persisting gender order.
It gave a basic overview of women's political representation in the Czech Republic in the last 25 years, and a summary of the most important factors influencing women's comparatively low representation in Czech politics.
