Abstract
Author of the article deals with Zdeněk Urban's (1925-1998) Slavonic studies, especially with his innovative doctoral dissertation at the Faculty of Arts of the Charles University in Prague ""The Beginnings of the Macedonian Literature in Relation to the Other South Slavic Literatures and Their Reflections in Czech Literature"" (in Czech; 1949), and also with Urban's other works, aimed mainly at comparative folklore and literary Bulgarian or Sorbian studies.
