The czechoslovak visual artists (hence SČSVU) was established in 1950. In a specific way, it was based on a long tradition of many artists associations, societies and syndicates founded in the Czech lands from 1835 onwards; The Syndicate of Czechoslovak Visual Artists, established in 1926, was the basis for the future SČSVU.
According to the Communist legislation which came into force in 1951, all organisations, which did not meet the standard of the law, were disestablished.
