Substantial demands are placed on detection systems for CE. The internal diameters of the electrophoretic capillaries vary between 10 and 100 μm.
These small spatial dimensions are connected with small sample volumes injected into the capillaries (tenths to tens of nanolitres) and frequently with small analyte concentrations in the sample.
