The study deals with the change in the status of women brought by the religious reformation in the German speaking countries. The reformation rethought the concepts related to women such as matrimony, celibacy or convents.
As a result the society has changed radically and the change affected women as well. The reformers logically could not avoid the topic of women in their work completely.
Although the problem is more complex and it cannot be narrowed down to theory, the thoughts of the reformers, namely Martin Luther and Martin Bucer, laid down the basis for the change in the status of women. Therefore the thoughts of these two men are the topic of this study.
