The paper deals with the everyday life of an American missionary Lois Gunden and her protégés in the children settlement in the villa of St. Christophe on the Mediterranean coast not far from Perpignan during the Second World War.
Within the context of the children settlement the author focuses also on the circumstances of the transports of Jewish children from the Vichy France into the exterminatory camps and the possibilities for their protection under the cover of American humanitarian activity.
