Rooftop belvederes or altans, just like loggias or casinos, formed a significant part of the inventory of Prague's historical architecture. This prominent architectural feature started to become established in the city with the advent of Renaissance architecture.

Other recreational elements - casinos or sale terrene with loggias that were constructed with the arrival of the Baroque period, which had a different concept of roof and leisure architecture, announced a time when vertical elements in the form of altans would be gradually suppressed. All these structures complemented the two main and most costly leisure buildings in Prague at that time, the Summer Palace in the Royal Garden and the garden loggia in the Wallenstein Palace.
