Challenges of higher education and the needs of society: Slovak higher education in comparative perspective

Abstract

Comparative study analyzes the development and the state of Slovak higher education in comparative perspective to higher education especially in the Czech Republic, in other Western European countries and the USA. Compares decisive trends, analyze international and national data and information, formulates important findings and conclusions and outlines recommendations.

The content of the comparative study dealing with the main topics of higher education and higher education policy in the Slovak Republic, but conforming to the same issues in an international perspectives: the expansion of higher education in the last twenty years, its context and consequences; access to higher education and persistent inequalities, brain drain; qualification needs of the labour market and employability of graduates; diversification and concentration of higher education institutions and the changing role of higher education systems; the quality and the rankings of higher education institutions and its financing.
