The hymn-like text Phil 2:6-11 has drawn attention of the scholars for peculiar linguistic, historical and theological aspects. The present study summarizes the main interpretative lines of the modern scholarship and proposes to read the text as an encomion, i.e. a praise of Jesus Christ for his carrier as humiliated servant and consequently the high exalted Lord.
On the Greek and Roman background of the Philippian Christians the apologetic and missionary direction of the text can be detected.
