The aim of this study is to map the evolution of Bohemian and Moravian children magazines from its very beginning in 1850 until the Velvet Revolution in 1989. The history of Czech children magazines is long and impressive.
At the end of 18th century some of the first European titles were printed and distributed in Prague. In the second half of 19th century new and specific kinds of magazine content for children were developed.
Between 1920 and 1939 a completely new and original type of children magazines emerged and it was special and unique in global context. This tradition still continues and publication Česky psané časopisy pro děti is the first attempt to describe it as a whole.
