Abstract

Bilateral spontaneous anterior subluxation (BSAS) of sternoclavicular joint (SCJ) is an ailment belonging to the broader diagnosis of Chronic non-traumatic instability of SCJ. Although BSAS is a rare diagnosis it can have lasting consequences if not diagnosed and treated appropriately.

Here we elaborate on the current diagnostic methods including imaging methods and briefly review the anatomy and the biomechanical properties of SCJ. We further report on a career ending case of a former athlete with BSAS with worsening symptoms.
