Abstract

The pathogenesis of atherosclerotic changes in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus is multifactorial. Therefore, if we want to reduce the incidence of cardiovascular complications, we can not focus only on reducing hyperglycemia, but also influence other risk factors of atherosclerosis.

Gliflozins (SGLT-2 inhibitors) are new effective antidiabetic drugs with a low risk of hypoglycemia, positive effect on body weight and blood pressure, as well as on variety of other cardiovascular risk factors. The following text addresses potential and proven effects of SGLT-2 inhibitors on cardiovascular system in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
