The aim of the paper is the presentation of anthropological, philosophical, and semiotic aspects of rhythm. The paper approaches these aspects from the point of view of the theory that is called rhythm analysis.
This theory has been developed in continuity with the philosophical tradition represented by G. Bachelard and H.
Lefebvre. In the first part the paper presents the anthropologically oriented rhythm analysis and its results in the study of individual and social demonstrations of rhythm.
The next part is focused on the way the structurally oriented semiotics and linguistics studies contributed to the knowledge of rhythms. In the final part the attention is drawn to the concept of polyrhythm.
