Do gadolinium based contrast agents bring new risks?

Abstract

Recently it was discussed about the risk of repeated use of contrast agents with gadolinium basis (Gadolinium-Based Contrast Agents; GBCA). It may cause deposits in the parenchyma of the brain, especially in the dentate nucleus and in the globus pallidus.

This is manifested by increased signal on T1WI. These deposits also occur in our archives of patients.

So far, we have found in patients who have been in the risk of disease progression or opportunistic infections. These changes were observed only in the dentate nucleus.
