Abstract
This paper is a short reflection on Madame de Staël. It focuses mainly on her literary criticism as well as on her involvement in women's emancipation.
Madame de Staël's views on the role of women may at first sight appear conservative and overcautious but we suggest that her way of reasoning might have been all the more persuasive in her days.
